Amazon Delays ‘New World’ Release Date For December of this year

Amazon’s New World has had quite a rollercoaster ride over many, many years of development, and it appears it will have to endure one last delay before it makes it out, which will be its five delay in less than two years.

Yesterday, Amazon announced that New World will be delayed from September 28 to December 09, a short delay of just a 2 months, in order to incorporate more feedback from the recent test and give the game more polish.

New World has seemed precariously positioned as potentially being another of Amazon’s many cancelled games as it attempts to find a foothold in the market, but it now seems like it will definitely make it release, and do so as a relatively engaging property. Amazon reports that 25 million hours of the last test were played, and the game was routinely sitting on the top of the Twitch viewership charts. Launching a new MMO with a brand new IP from a studio that has not made any games of this scale yet is incredibly risky, but despite all the delays, it appears like they’re going to pull it off. No telling how the longer term prospects of New World shake out, the key factor for an MMO, but generally speaking, this all seems like it’s going better than it could have.
