The gates to the magical Orange County theme parks Disneyland and California Adventure might be forced to close once again starting in 2022. The news so far is that Both parks and downtown Disney will close indefinitely as the coronavirus pandemic and social isolating continue, Disney officials announced Monday.
The California parks closed back in March 14 2020, with Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and Disneyland Paris Resort closing the following day. This raises the question if Disneyland will go back into yet another closure due to a concerning amount of covid cases rising.
This leaves many questions as to what park officials will decide to do, with large amounts of pressure coming from the CDC as well as Gavin Newsom.
It cost the company $3.5 billion just to close the parks during the third quarter, on top of the $1 billion it cost to shut them down the second half of March.
In all, the company posted a loss of nearly $5 billion for the third quarter, including a $2 billion loss in its parks, experiences and products segment.
Disney’s domestic parks – Disney World and Disneyland, as well as Disneyland Paris, resorts and cruise operations were closed for the entirety of the quarter and the final two weeks of the previous quarter.
