Chicago,IL – At Chicago Public Schools (A Chicago School District) is on a plan to go on strike due to the high demands on COVID-19 positivity in all their schools within the CPS District. CPS is a district with over 500,000 students and is a district that only has both primary schools and high schools and it’s schools are now facing a serious, but yet fearful manner. The district plans to cancel classes until further notice and the district can go on strike as soon as Tuesday January 11th or later. This is being discussed and in more chances it is possible for the district to go on a strike once again. A current CPS teacher at Curie Metropolitan High School said during the meeting conference “Our students are going through this pain of the pandemic and we need to cancel classes due to the COVID-19 and not allow students to come to school and have school close until it’s safe to do so. We need resources and the district isn’t helping our schools which is why our schools are not only violent in most schools, but are more chances of danger like this pandemic.” The CTU Vice President said to CPS “CPS schools are never going to improve because we are a public district to the City Of Chicago and accept students living in Chicago to come to our schools because we are once again a public district in a city like Chicago and we can not provide resources to CPS District for COVID-19 due to their lack of support and resources to theirs own students”. The meeting kept going and at the end no one seem to agree to anything and it’s making it a big problem for students in CPS schools. The CPS President stated “We want our students to be in the building, but want to make sure that CTU understands that because as a president from the CPS District, our schools are safe and our students are not at risk of catching COVID” and the CTU Vice President states to the CPS President “That’s a whole lie! Our records and statistics shows that most of our schools within the district of CPS have had an increase in COVID positivity rates and parents are not sending their students due to the lack of support and understanding of CPS to its student” The conference keeps taking place and are not coming to a decision which means more cancel classes for CPS students.
