In shocking news this morning, Google and Facebook, In collaboration with the Canadian Government, have released a new child protective policy under the Online Safety Act that will most likely affect you if you’re under 18.
In an effort to legitimize online identification, beginning April 1st, all Google and Facebook accounts under Canadian domains will be reviewed and compared to Canadian Government issued ID to determine correctness of information. This includes, name, sex, and age.
If any of these are found to be incorrect, your accounts could face termination. Yes, this means that if your age on your Gmail account or Instagram account is not your real age, then you can lose it.
That isn’t all, in another move sparking controversy, The two Tech giants have also announce that accounts that are found to be used by those under 18 must go through a mandatory parental control setup.
