The move to doctorate programs has been a subject of interest for the past few year. The National Board Certification of Occupational Therapy and the American Occupational Therapy Association has determined that the move to doctorate programs can no longer be delayed. All programs will be doctorate programs by 2025. Along with the programs changing it will be mandated that ALL CURRENT and FUTURE occupational therapy practitioners will need to have a doctorate degree to practice. While “grandfathering” has been allowed in the past the board feels as though the occupational therapy requirements and best practice methods have changed in such a way that those currently holding degrees will be too outdated.
