An New Jersey Grand Jury returned a 6 count Indictment Tuesday against Iyanna Cooper , 15, for the murder of one male.
Cooper is indicted on the following charges:
1st degree Attempted Murder
3rd degree Aggravated Assault/Cause Bodily Injury with a Deadly Weapon
2nd degree Possession of a Firearm for Unlawful Purposes
2nd degree Possession of a Handgun without a Permit
1st degree Murder
2nd degree Possession of a Firearm for an Unlawful Purpose
Officials says may 1st, 2022, New jersey Police officers responded to a call for a male who had been shot and stabbed several times at the Comfort suits Hotel on passaic st. Upon arrival, they located Yusef Abdullah, 17, with 3 bullet wounds to the head and several knife wounds to the abdomen. Upon further investigation, it was learned that the intended target of the shooting had been Iyanna Cooper, 15, of New Jersey. Abdullah died due to his injuries nearly 1 week later on may 8, 2022
The investigation was a cooperative effort between the New jersey Prosecutor’s Office and the New Jersey Police Department. Chief Assistant Prosecutor Danielle S. Buckley represents the state in the matter.
These charges are merely an accusation and not proof of guilt. In all criminal cases, a charged defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
