Matchbox 20 announced Monday that they will be changing their name to Matchbox 21. “With cancel culture running amok, we decided to change our name to avoid any misconceptions about our morals,” Rob Thomas explained. Thomas later elaborated that many underage girls enjoy their music, but they don’t want them to be their target audience. “That’s why we’re changing to Matchbox 21. We want to make sure that people know we aren’t targeting the young, and that our music is for adults,” Thomas concluded. However, some people already feel it’s too late to make the change. Many Americans feel that Matchbox 20’s music is already overplayed at sweet sixteens, showing the audience they’ve targeted. Many have already taken to Twitter to begin the canceling.
