Authorities are investigating numerous reports about the rising cases of public intoxication in Freeport, NY. Sargent Phillips of the local police department commented, “this has been become a growing problem that we’ve been trying to address.” Phillips continued to go on about the initiatives that are being developed to help quell this problem. “Recently, we’ve begun approaching individuals that we can see are clearly intoxicated. A few weeks ago, two of our officers approached two middle aged white women walking down the street. They clearly were banged up and not in the right state of mind. Our goal was to ensure they made it home. While they were confident that they lived nearby, we followed them to make sure they did. Our goal is to avoid these situations.” Many Freeport residents have been filing complaints, and the police department looks to take every effort to reduce the amount of public intoxication.
