Just 30 minutes after Carlos Rodon made his start against the Chicago Cubs has been dealt to the Cardinals in exchange for St. Louis’ #9 prospect RHP Tink Hence and #30 prospect 2B/SS Lizandro Ezpinoza. After the Giants have gotten off a cold start to come off the All Star Break they look to sell and try to win the World Series next year, Joc Pederson could be on the move as well. Carlos Rodon has been really superb for San Francisco he’s 9-6 with a 3.00 ERA and will help bolster the St Louis starting staff that lacks an ace, but they get one in Rodon. Rodon, 29 will have a player option for next year. As for the Giants they receive two very highly touted prospects that are both expected to come up soon and help with depth of the Giants farm system.
“All of these prospects, they’re so much a part of what we’ve been building toward, and ultimately we knew that there would come a time where we’d feel like it was our time to take a step forward,” said Cardinals president of baseball operations John Mozeliak. “This is why you build stronger, deep organizations. The talent that these guys bring to the table allowed us to go out and get what we thought was the top pitcher on the market, and really, what we thought was one of the better pitchers in baseball right now.”
