In the midst of an ongoing investigation into fraud, attempted murder was the “last thing on my mind” said scientific guru and famous Sports-betting analyst Perry McCarthy mere hours after waking up in the hospital. On Monday night, at appropriately 2:53 AM, 911 received a phone call from Perry’s neighbor in the Hollywood Hills, Elijah Wood. “I hear screams from my friends mansion” said Elijah. “There must be some kind of trouble, please come help I’m awfully terrified, I have rehearsal in the morning”. When police arrived at the scene, they found Perry McCarthy unconscious with blood coming out of his mouth and was presumed dead by all accounts.
In what can only be described as a miracle, when an ambulance arrived at the scene hours later, medics were able to revive Perry using CPR and rushed him to Saint Johns Hospital by helicopter. “I’ve never seen this before” said Dr. Nurobika Hershi, head of the Trauma Diagnostics Department at Saint Johns. “Perry must have been one hell of a fighter to come back like that, it’ inspired me and so many others in the hospital”.
Perry had been working the previous night with his assistant Allison on his company PerLocks. You see, there was an issue with his analyst team’s prediction for a few sports games and Perry wanted to make sure all bases were covered before releasing the pick via his platform. As was common, Allison came to visit Perry at his mansion to go over the discrepancy. Unbeknownst to Perry however, Allison herself was the cause of the discrepancy and had gravely underestimated Dr. McCarthys attention to detail. In Early August, Allison had been recruited by DraftKings to stack the books against Perlocks and fabricate data in order to eliminate Perlocks as competition and instead used Perlock’s actual algorithm to bolster its own sport-betting business. Dr. McCarthy knew there was someone on the inside working for a competing company but would have never guessed that Allison, whom he had know for 30 years, would be the one that betrayed him. In recent weeks, Dr. McCarthy had spoken little to press because he had been conducting his own internal investigation to find out who the mole was. The night Allison went to visit Perry at his mansion, Perry was on the verge of cracking the code. To protect herself, Allison said she couldn’t make it to his house and proceeded to break in silently. She picked up her high heel and stabbed Perry in the throat while he was reading the New York Times before fleeing the scene. When he woke up in the hospital, Perry suspected Allison might be the one who attacked him because he recognized the perfume she wore. He asked his colleague to describe the heels she was wearing that day (Dr. McCarthy has a photographic memory) and sure enough they were different than what she usually wore. Upon arrest, Allison admitted to everything and is now awaiting trial. For now, PerLocks is back in business but Law Enforcement is begging him to become an FBI agent as he amazingly solved his own case. This story is ongoing and will be updated as we gather more information.
