A student was stabbed with a knife during an altercation at Desert Mirage High School, officials confirmed to News Channel 3.
Coachella Valley Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Maria Gandera wrote in a statement that a student used a knife to assault another student Friday morning at the school, located in Thermal.
“It is our understanding that the incident is the result of a dispute between two students and did not represent a specific threat to the wider school community,” Gandera wrote.
Gandera said the victim sustained non-life threatening injuries. She confirmed that the school was briefly placed on lockdown to “ensure the safety of all students and staff.”
According to Gandera, the student with the knife was detained by police pending an investigation into the incident.
