Saturday October 15th, Twitch streamer Jerma985 dared his fans that he would skydive out of a plane “without a parachute”. Moderators and close friends warned him against it, but his fans egged him on. Saying things such as “no balls Andy”.
Some fans spoke out after the incident. In a twitlonger post, Jerma’s video editor @communityjake said,
“I know the fanbase is still reeling after the devastating news but really I think this should be a learning experience. Jerma was always pushing the limits of what his streams could be. It was only natural that after the baseball stream and the dollhouse, something like this would happen. I was one of over 50 thousand people that tuned into Jeremy’s “No Parachute Skydiving” stream. I was one of the chatters he was addressing when he said “Chat I’m landing in a bunch of sand there’s no way it’s gonna hurt that bad.” I watched as he moonwalked out of that plane. And finally I saw the plume of dust when he hit the ground. I think we can all learn about a lesson in humility here. Sometimes you need to listen to the people around you. My only solace is that he somehow managed to get the Charmin toilet paper company to sponsor the stream and that will no doubt help pay for the funeral costs. From now on we know, a pile of sand will not safely stop a human being traveling at terminal velocity.”
