New England States Might Be Banning High School Cheerleading… Here’s Why

What do you think of when a person talks about ‘cheerleading’? Pep rallies? Every American high school movie? Valid associations. However, recent reports from various New England Politicians are cause to believe cheerleading may not be around for long.
High school cheerleading in New England may be being banned. If so, the order will take place at the end of the current 2023 school year, meaning high school kids next year will need to show their school spirit in the student section of the bleachers.
The reason for this change comes down to oversexualized cheerleaders. When asked about the requirements for being a successful cheerleader, one journalist answered: “exceptional looks, personality, communication skills and dance skill”. The same question was asked to high school kids. The responses ranged from flexibility, to popularity and physical maturity. “Their outfits broke all of my high school’s clothing guidelines. If anyone besides a cheerleader wore that outfit they’d be suspended.” Says Lucas Reyard, 17, from a high school in New Hampshire. “It annoyed me so much. I couldn’t wear knee-length basketball shorts to school but they could wear skirts that barely covered their butt during the whole school day.” A New England high school alumni stated that “Our cheer team literally twerked on the field at half time during their performance. No respect for them whatsoever.”
As a general rule, the main reason for banning it would be that it is largely young attractive women who take it up and the justifications for banning it would be sexist and feminist concerns. We look forward to an update soon, but in the meantime, what do you think?
