£ 18.8M SETTLEMENT REACHED IN FATAL CENTRAL LONDON BMW CRASH INVOLVING TEEN DRIVER

CENTRAL LONDON — The family of the 23-year-old Olivia Southgate who was critically injured in a Central London crash involving a teenager behind the wheel of a BMW SUV will receive a settlement of £18.8 million in the case.

Olivia Southgate was driving home from her stables on January. 8 , 2023 when her Lamborghini Uris was struck by a speeding silver BMW, authorities said.

In March, Brendan Khuri, the 17-year-old driver of the BMW, will be sentenced to nine months of “probation camp” in addition four years of probation. He had admitted to felony attempted vehicular manslaughter in the case.

On Monday, lawyers for Southgate announced what they call “one of the largest settlements in London history for a single plaintiff in a wrongful severe injury case.

“Today is a significant milestone because the Southgate family can get some closure foe this horrific yet severe tragedy,” attorneys said in a statement. “The family faced numerous hurdles from both private insurance companies and the London District Attorney’s office.

The teen’s father, James Khuri, has apologized to Southgate’s family on social media, offering “my support in any way you will allow me to.”

Authorities said the teen had been stopped by West Londons police in October 2022 and November 2022 — with body-worn video drom the two stops indicating that he was cited first for driving 72 mph in a 35-mph zone and then cited for making an “unsafe start” by accelerating very fast, with that officer deciding to impound the vehicle.

In both instances, the officers noted that the teen was supposed to be driving with someone who was at least 25 under the rules of a learner’s permit.

Attorneys for Southgate’s family noted that the fatal crash occurred just two months after the teens BMW had been impounded.

The court hearing will take Place in March at the Central London County Court, where Southgate’s family will seek justice.
