Sherlock Holmes (born January 1, 1970) is a man known for frequenting the streets of Worcester, England in search of the cheapest 2-liter bottle of cider. He is often seen wearing Union Jack clothing and a Sherlock Holmes-style hat, as a nod to his namesake.
Holmes claims to be a descendant of the famous detective Sherlock Holmes, and has adopted many of his namesake’s mannerisms and habits. He is often seen carrying a magnifying glass and a notebook, in which he records the prices and locations of the cheapest cider in Worcester.
Holmes’ love of cider is said to stem from a desire to escape the stresses of home life, particularly his relationship with his wife and mother-in-law. He has been quoted as saying “I need a break from the wife and mother-in-law, and nothing helps me forget my troubles like a cold, cheap bottle of cider.”
Despite his eccentric behavior, Holmes has become something of a local legend in Worcester, with many residents enjoying the entertainment value of his cider-fueled escapades. Some have even started to call him “the Cider Sleuth.”
