Montclair, New Jersey – The Syracuse University football program has just scored a major commitment from one of the top high school players in New Jersey. Mahmoud Hassaneen, a senior at Montclair Kimberley Academy, announced on Tuesday that he will be joining the Orange starting this fall.
Hassaneen, who plays as a defensive end, was a dominant force for the Cougars during his high school career, racking up 62 tackles, 11 sacks, and 3 forced fumbles in his senior season alone. He was named to the All-State first team and the All-County team, as well as being selected as the team’s MVP.
“I’m thrilled to be joining the Syracuse football program,” Hassaneen said in a statement. “It’s been a dream of mine to play at the next level, and I’m grateful for this opportunity to represent the Orange and compete at the highest level of college football.”
Hassaneen had received offers from several other Division I schools, including Boston College, Rutgers, and Temple, but ultimately chose Syracuse for its strong football tradition and academic programs. He plans to major in business and hopes to eventually start his own company.
“We’re very excited to have Mahmoud join our program,” said Syracuse head coach Dino Babers. “He’s an outstanding athlete and an even better person. He’ll be a great addition to our team and our community.”
Hassaneen is the second defensive end to commit to Syracuse’s Class of 2023, joining Michigan’s Michael Williams. The Orange finished the 2022 season with a 7-6 record, including a win over West Virginia in the Pinstripe Bowl. They open the 2023 season on September 2nd against Liberty.
