Australian Airline ‘Jetstar’ Threated by Gunman Midflight Over Delays
Jetstar flight JQ28V left Inouye International Airport at 16:30 local Hawaiian time heading for Sydney, 3 hours into the flight, 28-year-old Kayan Prout drew a handgun and threatened onboard crew members over the delays experienced by travelers with the airline.
The gun pulled was a .38 caliber handgun made from 3D-printed PCP plastic which was concealed in the attacker’s rectum and had bullets disguised in a ‘Traditional Native-American Bracelet’ that was passed through TSA before boarding in Hawaii.
“I want f***ing compensation!”
The onboard crew and passengers were in shock and terror after hearing the angered man yell before revealing his firearm, the gunman ordered crew to “..tell the captain to go overdrive and get to [Sydeney Airport] right f***ing now” to make up for the 5 hours passengers were stuck stranded at Inouye Airport.
The flight continued course to Sydney, crew alerted the authorities regarding the onboard situation and were able to subdue the attacker after the gun’s firing mechanism failed to work due to the fluctuation of temperature and humidity the firearm was exposed to between Hawaii and concealment, causing the gun’s plastic mold to warp.
“Our officers are vigilant and are focused on our mission to ensure that no weapons of any type are able to be carried onto a flight,” said John C. Allen, TSA’s Federal Security Director for Hawaii. “Responsible gun owners know where their firearm is at all times and they know not to try to bring one through a security checkpoint. Unfortunately, we were unable to detect the gun used in this attack due to the advances in 3D printing technology that caused our protocols and security systems to fail.”
Nationwide, TSA officers detected 5,972 firearms on passengers or their carry-on bags at checkpoints last year.
It took one to slip through to security to send the Australian airline to the grave amongst the recent controversies they have been experiencing in recent times.
