BARCELONA, SPAIN – Study abroad student Joshua Davis was arrested outside of a popular nightclub in Barcelona in the early hours of Saturday morning after allegedly punching a police officer.
According to witnesses, Davis was involved in a verbal altercation with the bouncer outside the nightclub. When police arrived on the scene, Davis reportedly became aggressive and struck one of the officers in the face.
The officer, who has not been named, suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Davis was immediately taken into custody and charged with assaulting a police officer.
Davis, a 21-year-old American student from Indiana, had been studying abroad in Barcelona for the past three months. Friends of the student described him as a “friendly and outgoing” person who enjoyed exploring the city’s nightlife.
The incident has shocked both the local community and Davis’ fellow study abroad students. The university, which has not been named, has released a statement condemning the alleged assault and stating that they will fully cooperate with the authorities in their investigation.
Davis is currently being held in custody and is expected to appear in court later this week. If found guilty, he could face a prison sentence of up to three years.
This incident serves as a reminder to all students studying abroad to be mindful of their actions and to respect the laws and customs of the countries they are visiting.
