The Florida Department of Transportation has announced the immediate cancellation of all cruises leaving from the state’s ports due to the onset of hurricane season. The decision was made to ensure the safety of passengers and crew members in light of the unpredictable weather conditions that typically occur during this time of the year.
“The safety and security of our passengers and crew members are our top priority,” said FDOT spokesperson, Mark Wilson. “We understand that this news may be disappointing for many of our passengers, but we believe that it is in everyone’s best interest to err on the side of caution.”
The cancellation of cruises has left many ticket holders searching for refunds. Passengers who had booked cruises departing from Florida ports in the coming weeks are advised to contact their cruise line for information on refunds or rescheduling their trip.
This decision has dealt a significant blow to the already struggling cruise industry, which has been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. With no clear end in sight to the hurricane season, it remains to be seen when Florida’s ports will be able to resume their normal cruise operations.
