All Texas schools are reducing their school week to 4 days starting in August 2024.

Some studies suggest four-day weeks can help cut costs and improve student attendance. A Rand survey published in 2021, for example, found savings on hourly staff salaries and transportation. However, savings are typically minimal. Some school districts across Texas are shrinking their school weeks to four days as a way to attract and retain both teachers and students. A four-day school week is a relatively new and innovative idea gaining popularity with students and teacher across the United States. For some, the advantages of attending school only four days per week far outweigh the potential disadvantages. The financial savings to districts that jump on the four-days-per-week bandwagon can be tremendous, regardless of the size of the district. However, there are other benefits that serve as motivation for adopting this new educational structure.
