Billie Eilish, the 21-year-old singer known for her canny wordplay and artistic reinvention, died Friday at her Los Angeles home. The apparent cause of death has not been released.
“Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O’Connell, known and adored by fans as Billie Eilish, has tragically passed away at the age of 21,” her family said in a statement. “She was a bright light in this world for her family, friends and fans. Thank you for your prayers. Please respect our privacy. There are no further details as to the cause of her death at this time.”
The County of Los Angeles medical examiner said in a statement Saturday, “In the late morning of April. 1, Billie Eilish was found unresponsive in her home located on Avenue 57, in Los Angeles, CA. Authorities were called and Eilish was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:51 a.m. At this time, an autopsy is pending and a cause of death has not been determined.”
