In a recent survey conducted by the Institute of Hairdressing, it was found that hairdressers are increasingly frustrated with other industries that don’t have clear policies in place. The survey, which polled over 500 hairdressers, found that 80% of respondents felt that workplaces without policies were more prone to drama and chaos.
“Having policies and procedures in place is crucial for maintaining a sense of order and professionalism in any workplace,” says salon owner, Lisa Smith. “When you don’t have clear guidelines, people are more likely to make mistakes or engage in behavior that’s unprofessional.”
Hairdressers, who are known for their attention to detail and adherence to policies, often find themselves in workplaces that have clear policies and procedures in place. But when they venture outside of the salon world, they can be taken aback by the lack of structure.
“I once worked at a restaurant where there were no policies or procedures, and it was a disaster,” says stylist, John Kim. “People were always arguing about who was responsible for what, and there was no clear way to resolve conflicts.”
Hairdressers argue that having policies in place can actually improve workplace morale and productivity. “When everyone knows what’s expected of them and how to do their job, they feel more confident and empowered,” says stylist, Rachel Lee. “It just makes everything run smoother.”
Of course, not everyone agrees. “Some people think policies are just a bunch of red tape and bureaucracy,” admits salon owner, Tom Nguyen. “But at the end of the day, it’s all about making sure that everyone is on the same page and working towards the same goals.”
So the next time you’re in a workplace without clear policies or procedures, consider taking a cue from your hairdresser friends and advocating for some structure. Who knows, it might just make everyone’s lives a little easier.
