MetroHealth to close after 186 years of operation, leaving almost 10,000 employees without jobs. The government funded hospital’s CEO, Airicka Steed reports “we just could not get enough funds to keep us afloat with the new Glick building all while trying to recover from the financial damage we experienced during the Covid-19 pandemic.” Steed also mentioned that finances “haven’t been the same” since former CEO Akram Boutros was allegedly embezzling millions of dollars each year. “It really is tragic,” Steed goes on to say.
The tentative closing date for Cleveland’s oldest running hospital is June 1st, 2023.
