Chess, a seemingly innocent brain game that has been popular for centuries gets banned across many Florida elementary, middle, and high schools after Hans Niemann’s cheating scandal, where spectators claim he used a “sex toy” to win multiple games in chess tournaments and championships. “The kids just aren’t safe anymore.” Says a Sanford Middle School teacher.
Now, in Oregon, a teenage boy called “Gambit” by his friends, is worried that chess might get banned in his high school as well. “Chess means everything to me, I don’t know what I’d do without it.”
