On Thursday afternoon, UC Law San Francisco (formerly UC Hastings) held a diversity, equity, and inclusion conference in front of members of the student body and faculty. Isaac Calderon, a first year law student, was removed from the conference after raising his hand several times criticizing the school for its “politics”. Calderon’s comments contained remarks that many classmates found racist as he opposed diversity hiring and affirmative action. Several students also shared how Calderon was “disrespectful” in class to other students who advocated for social justice and legal reforms. Calderon stated that “our institutions can’t handle the truth” and that they “feel sorry for dingbats who aren’t smart and think they are entitled to prestigious accomplishments and positions just because they are part of a certain group”.
Calderon has been suspended for 1 week from classroom instruction , and the school says they will likely allow him to take his finals this month.
