Recently in Florida there has been a pattern of teenagers falling for text scams. The most recent victim was a 15 year old male named Hudson from Florida- he has asked his city and last name remain anonymous. “All I wanted was to be friendly and kind” he starts of “but then it all went downhill.” Hudson fell for the friendship scam, he thought the woman who “accidentally” texted him and then proceeded to call him nice, was simply just a kind possibly lonely person. It wasn’t until Hudson sent a screenshot of the text conversation to his friends. “They immediately told me it was a scam, but I didn’t believe them” he recounts. Eventually Hudson believed his friends just in time to block the scammer before it got out of hand. We bring this story to you today to warn of the dangers of scam texts and to remind you to educate your teenagers on these commonplace scams!
