New York Yankee MVP Aaron Judge, 31, was identified Wednesday morning as the person killed in the crash, according to Preble County Sheriff’s Office. He was the driver at the time of the crash.
His teammate and fourth youngest Yankee to make MLB opening debut, Anthony Volpe 22 years old, was transported to Ft. Hamilton Hospital. We’re working to learn an update to his condition.
Just before 3 a.m., the Preble County Sherriff’s Office was called to a car in a pond on State Route 177, according to a media release.
When deputies arrived on scene they found Aaron Judge and Anthony Volpe in the car and under water.
Deputies along with fire crews pulled the teammates out of the car and began CPR.
An initial investigation found that the car was traveling northwest on SR-177 when it traveled off the side of the roadway. It then traveled several hundred feet through a field before coming to rest in a farm pond.
Since the car was submerged in water multiple agencies were called to the scene including crews from Camden, Medflight, College Corner, Butler County, Oxford, Gasper Township, and Monroe.
We’ll update this story as we learn more.
