Gienger takes over helm at New CU Baseball program

Boulder, CO – The 1979-1980 season was the last time fans of CU saw a baseball game. This was the final season before the program was disbanded due to Title XIIII and some other regulations. The team competed in the Big-12 but starting in the spring of 2024 CU Baseball will now be part of the Pac-12. It’s been 44 years since baseball was played in Boulder, but the wait is almost over. There is a lot of buzz around Boulder with the anticipation of added baseball on top of the excitement surrounding their football program after bringing in Coach Prime. CU Athletic Director Tim Rosenbloom said “We are extremely happy to announce the additional of our new baseball program. After many long hours of planning and patience, we now have baseball back where it belongs at CU. We believe we have the right man to lead the charge back at CU in Coach Gienger who has a storied playing and coaching career.” Gienger comes to Boulder after coaching Douglas County High School with much success and sending countless players to the next level. He will have his work cut out for him starting a program from scratch but has the clout to bring in some top talent after coaching in the area for many years. Aaron Kretzer will be his assistant coach of whom coached together the very successful and talented group of young men from 303 Diamond National.
