Date: July 13, 2023

Hoffman Estates, IL – In a shocking turn of events, Heather Dettloff, a 47-year-old resident of Hoffman Estates, was arrested last night for drunk driving and possessing an open bottle of wine in her car. The incident occurred shortly after she had left her boyfriend’s residence.

According to law enforcement officials, Dettloff was pulled over by a patrolling officer at approximately 11:30 p.m. last night. The officer noticed her vehicle swerving erratically on Algonquin Rd, prompting them to initiate a traffic stop. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer detected a strong odor of alcohol emanating from the car.

Suspecting intoxication, the officer administered a series of standard field sobriety tests, which Dettloff reportedly failed. Subsequently, a breathalyzer test confirmed that her blood alcohol concentration (BAC) was above the legal limit.

Furthermore, upon searching her vehicle, law enforcement discovered an open bottle of wine, adding an additional charge for violating open container laws. It remains unclear whether the open bottle of wine played a role in her impaired driving.

Local residents were shocked to hear about Dettloff’s arrest, as she was not known to have any prior criminal record. Friends and neighbors expressed their concern for her well-being and hoped that this incident would serve as a wake-up call.

Heather Dettloff was taken into custody without further incident and transported to the local police station. She was subsequently charged with driving under the influence (DUI) and possession of an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, both of which are serious offenses in Illinois.

Dettloff is scheduled to appear in court next week, where she will face the consequences of her actions. If convicted, she could face fines, license suspension, mandatory alcohol education programs, and possibly even jail time.

ABC Chicago reached out to Heather Dettloff for comment, but she declined to provide a statement at this time.

Driving under the influence is a dangerous and illegal act that puts the lives of both the driver and other road users at risk. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible alcohol consumption and the potential consequences of impaired driving.
