Sweden can’t afford to host Eurovision 2024

The Eurovision Song Contest took place in May where Loreen triumphed to victory with her song ‘Tattoo’. She was the first woman to win the contest twice.

The Eurovision rules says that the winning country must host the following year. The cities hoping to host included Stockholm, Malmö, Gothenburg and Ördnsköldsvik.

SVT – the Swedish broadcaster announced that the host city would be announced this week but earlier this morning at 8:00 AM CET they announced they could not afford to host due to financial reasons.

The EBU is now rushing to find a host country because this news was announced very late. Italy, Spain and Austria are in the bidding to host the contest in May next year.

All three countries have been asked to name 2 cities they hope to host the contest in next year.

RAI has chosen Naples and Rome

Mega TV has chosen Madrid and Barcelona

ORF has picked Salzburg and Vienna

The EBU has stated that they will announce the host country along with the city in mid-August
