RANTOUL, IL — Investigators have secured “a vehicle of interest” for further processing in the investigation of Friday’s fatal hit-and-run.
While a photo of a vehicle matching the description of the one believed to be involved in the accident is currently circulating on social media,Rantoul State Police Lt. Michelle Robinson could not confirm that the vehicle pictured is the vehicle secured.
“I can not confirm this is the vehicle until further processing,” she told the Daily News.
According to Robinson, evidence located at the scene has determined that the suspect vehicle is a 1999-2005 VW Jetta that has dark blue/purple coloring on the vehicle. There was damage to the windshield as well as a side window; however, Robinson said she could not release more details of evidence found as the investigation is ongoing.
The fatal hit-and run resulted in one teenager and one adult being struck Friday near Falcon Way Townhomes. David Brooks, 14, of Champaign, IL was pronounced deceased at the scene. The female adult was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or may have information related to the suspect vehicle to contact the Rantoul Police Department
