In a remarkable turn of events, the Australian Lexicographers Association has officially announced the inclusion of the word “Eeetswa” in all dictionaries starting from 2024. This delightful addition has caught the attention of language enthusiasts across the nation.
‘Eetswa’ is a term from Pig Latin, which is a made up language by that uses English words and turns them front and back.
The literal meaning of Eetswa is ‘sweet’, but it can also mean ‘thank you’. It has conventionally been used by Australian ‘Eshays’, but has recently spiked in popularity among the general population as well.
Linguists and language experts have applauded this decision, recognising the significance of incorporating words from new generations into our day-to-day vocabulary.
“I mean, it’s alright – I’m not like, obsessed with it or anything” – said Barbod, an interviewee when questioned on his thoughts on this wonderful new addition.
