HBO Cancels Thrilling Pirate Romance Series Our Flag Means Death After 2 Seasons

HBO’s thrilling pirate romance series, Our Flag Means Death, will not return for a third season on the network. Despite a large digital fan base, the series will not be picked up for an additional season on Peacock either.

Waititi, which co-produces with Human Animals, will shop the series to other networks. Creator David Jenkins, along with other producers and stars of the show, have taken to social media to rally fans to save the show. (#saveourflagmeansdeath)

The series, starring Rhys Darby as Stede Bonnet, tells the story the early days of Bonnet’s career as a pirate after abandoning his family and his comfortable life as a member of the landed gentry of Barbados.

A host of seasoned actors and actresses co-starred on the series, including Oscar winner Taika Waititi (Thor: Love and Thunder), Con O’Neill (On the Twentieth Century), Vico Ortiz (Once on This Island), Nathan Foad (Spring Awakening), and Matthew Maher (Guys and Dolls), with several guest appearances from industry luminaries such as Leslie Jones, Fred Armisen, and Nick Kroll.

The Season 2 finale aired at the end of October. The full series is now streaming on Max.
