NASA has confirmed that an asteroid 2.5 miles wide, or roughly half the size of the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs, is on a direct collision course with Earth. Government officials are refusing to comment but there are rumors coming from within NASA of a joint mission with the European Space Agency to attempt to deflect or destroy the asteroid if possible. An impact with Earth would likely wipe out half of all life on the planet.
