Riot Games president Mac Merrill spoke to the press on Monday regarding the Alabama Supreme Court case regarding the popular FPS shooter Valorant. Merrill says “Due to the court mandate, as of today, Valorant will be cracking down on underaged players”. This case was brought up from by a group of mothers who were complaining that their kids had access Valorant. One of the mothers said in an interview “The game depicts guns and violence in every corner of the game, as a mother, I want to protect my kids from the actual violence that is going on in the world as much as I can”. Valorant on X (previously Twitter) says in a post that they will now be requiring social security verification. By doing it this way, it is impossible for people to lie about their age.
